Description de l'opportunité
A great post can inspire someone to volunteer, support a project, or bring free art to their community. Help us tell those stories!
Hands & Canvas is a youth-founded, volunteer-led initiative based in Toronto that makes art more accessible through free workshops and community projects. Through Beyond the Studio, volunteers also create donated artwork, handmade gifts, colouring pages, and art kits.
We’re looking for a Volunteer Marketing & Social Media Lead to join our executive team and help more people discover and get involved with our work.
If you enjoy designing graphics, writing captions, making videos, or finding creative ways to get people interested, we’d love to hear from you!
YOUR ROLE:
Working directly with the founder, you’ll help shape how Hands & Canvas shares its work online. You’ll create content that introduces our programs, celebrates volunteers, and encourages people to participate.
You’ll also help promote recruitment, fundraising campaigns, and chapter activities as they develop.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
• Build a manageable content calendar and consistent posting schedule.
• Design social media posts, recruitment graphics, flyers, and promotional materials.
• Write engaging captions with clear information and calls to action.
• Turn approved photos, clips, and updates into stories, reels, or short videos.
• Promote workshops, Beyond the Studio projects, and volunteer opportunities.
• Gather updates from chapter leads and highlight their work.
• Collaborate with fundraising and communications leads as those roles are filled.
• Track basic engagement and inquiries to understand what encourages participation.
• Keep our visual style, tone, and information consistent.
There’s room to experiment! Pitch a volunteer spotlight, a behind-the-scenes series, an art challenge, or another idea that fits our mission.
HOW WE’LL SUPPORT YOU:
You’ll receive an introduction to our programs, audience, and priorities, along with available brand materials and approved content.
We’ll choose priorities together, review drafts, and check in regularly. You’ll have room to develop ideas and take ownership of agreed projects.
Content will be reviewed before publication. Photos, stories, and artwork must have appropriate permissions, and program details will be confirmed before promotion.
You won’t need to attend every workshop or create everything from scratch. We’ll work with program and chapter leads to gather available material.
WHO WOULD ENJOY THIS ROLE?
This could be a great fit if you:
• Enjoy social media, storytelling, design, or video editing.
• Can write clear, friendly captions for different audiences.
• Know Canva or another design tool, or are willing to learn.
• Keep track of deadlines and communicate reliably.
• Are open to feedback and excited to try ideas.
• Care about making creative opportunities more accessible.
High school students, university students, and adults are welcome. School projects, club accounts, personal artwork, and informal content creation all count as experience. You don’t need a professional portfolio or a large following.
You don’t need to be equally skilled in graphics, writing, and video. Tell us what you enjoy most and what you’d like to learn!
WHAT YOU’LL GAIN:
Join an executive team and gain experience in social media, graphic design, storytelling, and campaign planning. Create work for your portfolio, meet creative people, and help shape how Hands & Canvas reaches volunteers and supporters.
Completed volunteer hours can be documented and verified. Students should confirm eligibility with their school.
YOUR FIRST STEPS:
You’ll get to know Hands & Canvas, review our current content with the founder, and choose a few priorities. Then we’ll build a simple content calendar and develop your first posts together.
We value accurate, welcoming content that helps people understand our work and take part. We’ll look at volunteer interest and useful inquiries alongside engagement.
LOCATION AND COMMITMENT:
This is an unpaid, remote volunteer opportunity open across Canada, including Vaughan and York Region. Meetings take place online. Local photography or event attendance would be optional and arranged separately.
Expect approximately 2 to 4 hours per week, with some additional time around agreed campaigns. Scheduling is flexible around school or work, with reliable communication and follow-through expected.
A commitment of at least three months is preferred so you can develop content, learn from the response, and build consistency.
HOW TO APPLY:
Email brianlu086@gmail.com with the subject “Marketing & Social Media Lead” and include:
• Why this role interests you.
• Your city or town and province or territory.
• Your availability and expected length of commitment.
• Any experience or interests in social media, design, writing, or video.
• One content idea you’d like to explore for Hands & Canvas.
Examples of your work are welcome, but a portfolio is not required.

Hands & Canvas
Arts, culture et patrimoine
Hands & Canvas is a youth-founded, volunteer-led initiative based in Toronto that makes art more accessible through free workshops, creative materials, and community projects. We believe cost should not prevent children and youth from exploring their creativity.
We work with schools and community organizations to offer hands-on art activities that encourage experimentation, self-expression, and connection. Through our Beyond the Studio program, volunteers also create donated artwork, handmade gifts, colouring and activity pages, and art kits, with projects shaped around recipient organizations’ needs.
We’re growing a network of volunteers and welcoming school, university, and community chapter leads across Canada. Volunteers can help organize workshops, coordinate creative donation projects, or contribute skills in communications, marketing, fundraising, and grant research. We provide guidance to help new leads get started and build relationships in their communities.
Our work is guided by accessibility, inclusion, collaboration, and youth leadership. Whether someone enjoys making art, bringing people together, or supporting projects behind the scenes, we welcome their interest and willingness to learn.
